We have rights too

Hi everyone! If you're new to my blog, welcome to Breakfast at Bridget's! To read my previous posts, just click on the links in the blog archive. Anyway, hi again! It's me (unfortunately) and today's post is about gender inequality and women's rights. If you're a misogynist, you're probably thinking "Oh here we go, another feminazi ranting about how men suck and that women should be liberated above all.",

First things first, let me give you the actual definition of feminism. Some people think that 'feminism' is the belief that women are better than men. You are completely...incorrect. Feminism is the advocacy of women's rights on the ground of the equality of sexes. Women should be treated as potential intellectual equals and social equals to men. Women and men should both have equal rights and opportunities (in employment and education). "It is a range of political movements, ideologies, and social movements that share a common goal: to define, establish, and achieve political, economic, personal, and social rights for women." - Wikipedia.

Just before I continue, let me get this straight. To support the equal rights for women, you don't have to identify as a feminist. You can be a humanitarian or just a decent person who believes in equality between the two sexes. There are several cases where people are fired up saying that those who have strong beliefs in women's rights are 'feminazis'. The use of that word is insulting, offensive, denigrating and rude. Adding the word feminist with Nazi. Bringing back the gory past. Some people always seem to be putting their foot in their mouth.

Women should have their own autonomy, dignity and integrity. Women should work. Women should earn fair wages or equal pay to men. Women should own their own property. Women should have education. Women should basically have all the opportunities that are open to men only. Women and girls should be protected from rape, sexual assault and harassment and domestic violence.

Why are women always targeted? Always being degraded, condescended and being stripped of their rights? Why are women lower  than men? What makes women lower than men? What are the differences? Is there even a reasonable and rational answer to these questions? I doubt it.

Pay equity and discrimination. There is no point trying to deny that women are paid less than men. Women are almost half of the workforce. Some receive more college and graduate degrees than men. However, on average, women continue to earn considerably less than men. According to IWPR (Institute for Women's Policy Research), in 2015, female full-time workers made only 80 cents for every dollar earned by men, a gender wage gap of 20 percent. IWPR's report on sex and race discrimination in the workplace shows that outright discrimination in pay, hiring, or promotions continue to be a significant feature of working life.

Don't try to argue with me. The above information are recent, explicit and valid statistics and facts.

Secondly, when women are pregnant and have children, they should be able to work afterwards. The father has a responsibility too. They are parents. As a parent, they are responsible of raising their child. NOT JUST THE MUM. Everywhere you go, you see women at the grocery store, pushing a pram, or at a café, bouncing their kid on their knee. Men don't do their fair share. When you ask any father what they want out of life and the new fatherhood myth prevails: men say that want to work less and more flexibly, to spend more time with their kids, and to do more of their share in childcare.

So why aren't they doing it? Isn't it time that start doing their part too in parenting?

Another thing, why are there two different types of push-ups? One for girls and the other for boys. The girl version is easier. Why must there be two separate types? Are they insinuating that girls/women aren't capable of doing the same things as men? Let me tell you, women are strong. Though many are oppressed, they hold on. WOMEN HAVE TO CARRY A BABY INSIDE THEM, thank you very much.

We were all humans until race disconnected us, religion separated us, politics divided us, and wealth classified us.

We all have rights. We all have our opinions. We all have our says. We all have own beliefs. Gender inequality is not a woman's issue, it is a human issue. It affects us all.

That's all for today! Thank you for reading and I hope you enjoyed this post! This post is educating those who don't understand or are unaware of the inequalities women have to suffer. I'm not targeting men either. Men are incredible in their own ways too! I'm just hoping and seeking that soon women will rise and be at the same level as men. Keep updated on my posts and share my blog with others!

Yours forever,
Brianna Fong
