In the last minute...

Hi everyone! If you're new to my blog, welcome to Breakfast at Bridget's! To read my previous posts, just click on the links in the blog archive. Anyway, hi again! It's me (unfortunately) and today's post is about doing homework, assessments/assignments, studying, whatever you do last minute. Sound familiar?

From personal experience, I am found completely guilty, without a doubt that I have done (more than once) things last minute. *cue dramatic music* I say there should be a criteria of some sort for last minute studying to confirm that you are actually doing that.

SIGNS THAT PROVE THAT YOU ARE STUDYING LAST MINUTE:
1. You keep on looking at the clock and can't focus properly

2. You are desperately trying to cram all your information into your brain at once

3. At some point, you realise you forgot to cover something important

4. You find something you don't understand and hope it won't appear in the exam

5. You think you're about to go insane

And the list can go on and on. Some say last minute studying is good because it is in that moment that you are the most productive. I don't know, let me know what you guys think down in the comments. By productive I think they mean memorising everything in your textbook, rushing to school while the information is still "fresh" in your mind. But I have a few questions in mind.

Number one: Why do people study last minute?

Of course there are the procrastinators. You know, the ones who say they will do it later (basically putting off something they need to do) or post pone something. Thus, they leave studying till last minute and then go into panic mode (i don't need to explain this one do i?). Others deny themselves of being a procrastinator. They say by leaving everything later because by then, they will be older therefore more wiser. Funnily enough, by leaving your work last minute doesn't seem to be a very wise decision but oh well.

Number two: How does last minute studying begin?

A week before your exam, you glance at the day and say to yourself, "I have plenty of time. I'll start studying tomorrow." and continue surfing the internet or whatever you were doing at the time. The tomorrow turns into the day after that and the day after that and the day after that, leading up to the exam day. You reassure yourself that you will have plenty of time to study but you never do anything to even pass the stage. The final result is the day or night before the exam, you regret everything you did before hand and wonder why the heck you didn't start earlier.

Bill Gates (he co-founded Microsoft) once said: "To be a good professional engineer, always start to study late for exams because it teaches you to manage time and tackle emergencies." Is Bill trying to promote last minute studying? On another note, here is a tip for everyone when it comes to studying...if you haven't realised yet DON'T STUDY LAST MINUTE. However if you actually do well by using that method, good on you! Anyway, research shows studying in 30-50 minutes intervals with 10 minute breaks in between is the most effective way to retain information.

Well that's all for today! I hope you enjoyed this post! Don't forget to follow me on Google +, keep updated on  posts and share my blog with others! Help my blog get more viewers internationally!
